A SCHOOL has been praised for its commitment to making a ‘fantastic learning environment for everyone to prosper’.

Jack Sargeant, AM for Alyn and Deeside, along with Shotton Councillor Sean Bibby attended Ysgol Ty Ffynnon to congratulate them on moving into Green in the Welsh National Schools categorisation.

Mr Sargeant said: “It was fantastic to visit Ysgol Ty Ffynnon following the announcement that the school has reached green status. It is clear, that the whole school, pupils, teachers, parents and governors are committed to making Ysgol Ty Ffynnon a fantastic learning environment for everyone to prosper. Well done, Ysgol Ty Ffynnon.”

The Leader previously reported the school moved up from Amber to Yellow in 2017 and has now moved up further to Green.

Cllr Sean Bibby said this was the highest category and adding to the school’s achievements was that it was the first school in Wales to be awarded the National Nursing Schools Programme accreditation.

He added: “This is off the back of a great deal of hard work and effort from pupils, teachers, staff and governors. A big thank you to all those showing commitment and drive to deliver a quality education for our children.

“I had the pleasure of accompanying our Assembly Member Jack Sargeant to Ysgol Ty Ffynnon to offer our congratulations with Headteacher Nia Goldsmith and Chair of Governors Margaret Madoc-Jones. We had an opportunity to speak to staff and pupils and Jack went before the School Council to answer students’ questions about his work as an Assembly Member. As always there was a welcoming and happy atmosphere at Ysgol Ty Ffynnon.”

In a statement from Minister for Education Kirsty Williams she said she was ‘encouraged’ that the percentage of primary and secondary schools in the green category has increased from 41.6 per cent to 46.9 percent which ‘shows a story of improvement’.

However, she remains concerned over the 13.5 per cent of schools in the amber and red categories.
