FOR the second week in a row, winter storms disrupted the athletics calendar in North Wales.

There were cancellations and postponements of races and parkruns.

This did not stop Denbigh Harrier Vic Belshaw from running a night race in the Peak District, though!

The Mr Sparkles Dark Un was run over an 8k course, with 214 metres of ascent.

Vic described the race as “somewhat dangerous, yet exciting” with the weather and his own breath obscuring the light of his head-torch, making the terrain seem surreal.

A number of Denbigh Harriers had expressed an interest in the Conwy Mountain fell race on Saturday, but with a forecast of 60mph winds in Conwy town, most of the club members decided to err on the side of caution.

In the end, Brett Jones was the only Harrier to join the 93 other runners on the steep terrain in the wind and rain.

The race stated in Conwy and covered five miles, climbing 1,650 feet, which made it a test of strength, speed and agility.

Brett had an amazing run to finish 14th in what he called a “wet, windy, slightly dangerous in parts, but good fun" race.

Despite the inclement weather, some Harriers braved a number of parkruns.

In the Troon parkrun, Joe Welch missed first place by a solitary second.

Results:

Troon parkrun: 2, Joe Welch 18.56.

Flatts Lane parkrun: 73, Susan D Hewitt 39.45.

Wepre parkrun: 60, Sian Pritchard 31.05; 125, John Llewelyn Thomas 47.49.
