A WREXHAM man has been fined after admitting to harassing his ex-girlfriend, including calling her hundreds of times in the space of a few days.

Ian Andrew Owen, 29, of Glanrafon, Rhos, had been dating Charlotte Jones for around 18 months before she ended the relationship in November last year.

Owen did not take the news well and he left a teddy bear gift on her doorstep telling her he was sorry on December 1 and from that initial contact, he attended her home address on several occasions, including when he told her "do you not know that I'm watching you?".

Owen also knocked on her front door and demanded to know who was inside the house with her and over the course of seven days called her 370 times.

Justin Espie, prosecuting, told Mold Magistrates Court how Owen and Ms Jones had been together for around 18 months before the relationship was ended on November 27. Owen had started to display signs of jealous behaviour after he had originally left a gift and apologetic note on her doorstep in an attempt to rekindle the romance.

Melissa Griffiths, defending, said her client was in the unusual position of actually fully accepting his guilt as many others in the same position are unable to do so. She said he was apologetic for his behaviour and how it was his own jealousy and paranoia that had led to the break up.

Ms Griffiths said Owen had shown signs of that kind of behaviour after about a year of being with Ms Jones, even though she had done nothing wrong and given him no reason whatsoever to act in that way.

He admitted that it was completely unreasonable to call someone the number of times he did in such a short time frame, but how his head had been "all over the place" when the relationship had come to an end.

Owen, who works as a labourer, now fully accepted that the relationship was over and had no intention of ever contacting Ms Jones again.

He regretted what had happened and was now able to see it in a rational way and how his behaviour would caused her such upset.

Magistrates fined him £200, ordered him to pay costs of £85 and a surcharge of £32 while they imposed a restraining order for him not to contact her by any means for the next 12 months.
