A MAJOR development has been completed by an ambitious Vale of Clwyd club.

Ruthin Town FC have completed the refurbishment of their clubhouse, which has been a joint project with the town's cricket club, who share the facilities.

This has been a real team effort and well over 20 people have been involved from the two clubs.

The bar has been improved, new electrics and lighting have been installed by Chris Williams, intruder alarms, CCTV and a new entrance door has been installed by Rich Goldston, while the entire clubhouse has been modernised to include two large projector screens and a pool table.

The new facility is now open to the public for functions, parties and celebrations for up to 80 people.

Bar manager Kirsty Newell said: “The clubhouse looks great and it’s now ideal for functions and parties.”

Ruthin Town vice-chairman Andy Edwards added: “This has been a joint project between the two clubs and I would like to thank each and every one of them.

"There are simply too many to list as so many people have been involved but we have all worked so well together.”

The improvement to these facilities has been part of a longer term project started during the time of ex-chairman Brian Griffiths when the cricket pitch was moved to accommodate hard-standing around the two football pitches.

At that time, the main pitch was moved and another pitch was installed alongside it.

The plan included improving the entire ground with a new stand, dugouts and finally the ground was enclosed.

This work was completed during the chairmanship of Paddy Carney and it meant that the club was able to continue to play in the second tier of Welsh football.

Once again, the club is indebted to GT Teeson Ltd for their support and hard work.

Work continues under new chairman Alan Jones as a TV tower has already been built by Edmunds Scaffolding and Ruthin Town would like to thank Rhys Edmunds for his generosity.

A media section will be installed in the main stand over the next few months and plans are already well advanced for floodlights to cover both football pitches.

The club is currently waiting for news of funding and the work will be started over the next 12 months.

This will be the culmination of hard work by vice-chair Andy Edwards in terms of planning and fundraising.

A special mention must go to Jones Bros for agreeing to undertake the groundwork.

The plan is for floodlights to cover both pitches, which would give the club options should they wish to install a 4G pitch in the future.
