An inquest has been formally opened on Wednesday on a pilot who died when a light aircraft crashed off Anglesey.
Professor David Last, 79, of Llanfairfechan, a consulting engineer and world-renowned navigation expert, was an experienced pilot.
He was flying a Cessna on November 25 when it lost radar contact near Puffin Island, sparking a major search.
North Wales said divers recovered his body.
The aircraft came down while flying back to Caernarfon airport after a short flight to the Great Orme headland at Llandudno.
North West Wales senior coroner Dewi Pritchard Jones at Caernarfon said he was awaiting the result of tests from a post-mortem examination. The Air Accidents Investigation Branch were also carrying out an investigation.
The inquest was adjourned after a brief hearing.
