A CAR crash forced the closure of a section of the A19 northbound near Ingleby Arncliffe this afternoon.

Emergency services including the air ambulance and fire service rushed to the scene shortly after 1.30pm today.

One car was involved in the incident and ended up down a verge beside the dual carriageway after leaving the road.

The northbound carriageway between the A684 to A172 (Cleveland Tontine) was closed to allow the emergency services to deal with the incident.

Traffic was initally held both ways to allow the air ambulance to land.

The incident caused tailbacks, with cars moving at an average speed of around 5mph on the surrounding section of the A19.

The road is now fully reopened.
