A 32-YEAR-OLD man has been sentenced following a fail to stop collision which caused serious injury in Gwynedd in December 2018.

Steven Robert James Edwards of Caernarfon Road, Bangor was jailed for 22 months and disqualified from driving for 35 months and will have to take an extended re-test following the collision which occurred in Bangor in December 2018.

Edwards collided with a female pedestrian on Glynne Road shortly before 8pm on Monday, December 11 2018 and left the scene.

The woman was taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor with serious injuries.

At the time officers issued appeals for witnesses following the incident and Edwards was eventually traced and arrested.

He was charged with causing serious injury by dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving without insurance, failing to stop after a road accident and failing to report a road accident.

He appeared before Caernarfon Crown Court today where he pleaded guilty to the offences.

Investigating Officer PC Sean Edwards of the Roads Policing Unit said: “The manner of driving of Steven Edwards, who hadn’t even passed his driving test, was dangerous and reckless and he had no thought for the woman involved, or any other road users that night.

“This was a cowardly act whereby he left the scene without checking on her welfare. It is only by sheer luck that this wasn’t a fatal road traffic collision.

“He did not stay and wait for the emergency services and did not make any attempt to check on the woman’s welfare which was completely selfish and unacceptable.

“I hope the sentence handed by the court will send out a very clear message that anyone convicted of such offences will be dealt with robustly.”
