THE family of 64-year-old Anglesey grandad who died in a  collision on the A55 at Caergeiliog on New Year's Eve have paid tribute.

Gwynfor Hywel Jones was from the Valley area.

His family have issued the following statement: “As a family, we are devastated and heartbroken following the sudden and tragic death of our dear father.

"He was a dear grandfather to seven grandchildren and will be dearly missed by his siblings. He also leaves behind his loving mother and father.

"He was passionate about lorries and was a HGV driver all his life.

"He will be sadly missed by all his family and friends and we would appreciate privacy at this difficult time."

Officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses following the collision which occurred around 11:53pm, on New Year’s Eve, on the A55 eastbound carriageway, near junction 4 at Caergeiliog.

Sergeant Darren Newby of the Roads Policing Unit said: “We would like to extend our sincerest condolences to Mr Jones’ family and friends at this incredibly difficult time.

“We continue to appeal to anybody who may have witnessed the collision, which involved a black Vauxhall Mokka car and a heavy goods vehicle, or to anybody who may have been travelling in the area and who may have dashcam footage.”

The accident involved a car and a heavy goods vehicle, on the A55 eastbound near to junction 4 at Caergeiliog.
