BANGOR hospital staff went to extraordinary lengths to organise a special wedding so a terminally ill patient could wed her partner on Christmas Eve.

Lynda and Duane Bailey, who have been together for 21 years,

tied the knot thanks to staff at Ysbyty Gwynedd who organised the entire wedding in just a few days.

The nurses and staff on Ffrancon Ward wanted to make sure the couple's day as special as possible.

A bay on the ward was transformed for the ceremony and Christmas decorations helped create a magical wedding venue for the Penygroes couple.

Duane, who was due to marry Lynda earlier this year, said staff on the ward had made this Christmas extra special for them.

He said: “The staff really went to great lengths to ensure the day was perfect for us, they helped Lynda get ready and also ensured we had an area to have the ceremony and even made us a wedding cake!

“The ceremony was amazing and it was lovely that the staff could join our friends and family and watch us get married.

“This was a really special day for us and without the staff from Ffrancon this would never have happened, we are extremely grateful to everything they’ve done for us.”
