Christmas Day and Boxing Day is the only time of year when some areas of Gwynedd don't receive the usual waste and recycling collection service.

The Council appreciates that this can cause a nuisance to those who would normally put their recycling, food and household waste bins (the green wheelie bin or black bags)out for collection on Wednesday, December 25 or Thursday December.

That’s why tThe Council has put special arrangements in place to collect the household waste in the days following Christmas for those who would normally put their recycling, food and household waste bins out on December 25 or December 26. to ensure that nobody goes more than three weeks without a collection.

For those households that will miss a collection because of this, the arrangements for households waste (green bin) will be:

Usual collection 25 December – in the Arfon and Dwyfor areas there will be a collection on 28 December; and in the Meirionnydd area the collection will be on 27 December.

Usual collection 26 December – in the Arfon and Dwyfor areas there will be a collection on 29 December; and in the Meirionnydd area the collection will be on 28 December.

Unfortunately, it won’t be possible to offer extra recycling, food waste or clinical waste or nappy collections (yellow bags). These collections will re-start on Wednesday, 1 January and Thursday, January 2 2020.Although it’s a bank holiday, there will be normal collections on Tuesday, 1 January.

In an effort to help residents recycle and dispose of their additional seasonal rubbish conveniently and with minimum fuss, Gwynedd Council’s network of recycling centres will be open for an extended period over the festive period.Cllr Catrin Wager, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member for Highways and Municipal matters, said: “As a Council, we appreciate that the Christmas celebrations can mean that more rubbish thatusualcanaccumulate over the festive period. We’d therefore encourage residents to make full use of the Council’s recycling centres.“Our recycling centres can be very busy on the days after Christmas, and that’s why we have arranged for a number of the centres to be open for an extended period. So you don’t have to rush down to therecycling centre first thing on 27 December.”

Steffan Jones, Gwynedd Council’s Head of Highways and Municipal added:

“Full details of all your waste and recycling arrangements can be found easily online. As part of efforts to cut down on postage and printing, we won’t be posting 2020 waste and recycling calendars to all households in the county this year.

“Remember, you can check your collection arrangements by downloading the 'apGwynedd' app on your smartphone or you can see a digital copy of your collection calendar for the year by typing in your postcode on the website www.gwynedd.llyw.cymru/whereilive, and if you choose, you can print a copy yourself.

"If you have any questions which you can't find an answer to online, visit your local Siop Gwynedd (Caernarfon, Dolgellau, Pwllheli) or contact us on 01766 771000."
