A DEE valley farm will now be the first to export its produce to an Arabic country following the completion of a unique trade deal.

After two years of negotiations, Rhug Estate's Welsh organic lamb will be first of its type on sale at butchers counters in Qatar after the deal was agreed by Lord Newborough.

Various cuts of will now be available to buy from the butchers’ counter in Monoprix supermarkets in the country - which joins Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Netherlands and Macau - including lamb shanks, loins and legs of lamb.

A spokesperson for Rhug Estate said: "Rhug Estate is delighted to announce that PGI Welsh Lamb from its organic farm in north Wales is the first Welsh organic lamb to be available for customers to buy in Qatar, following Lord Newborough negotiating a trade deal which has taken two years to finalise."

Lord Newborough, owner of Rhug Estate, said, “It has taken a lot of hard work to get us to this point but we are absolutely delighted to open up this whole new market in Qatar. We are grateful to the Welsh Government and Hybu Cig Cymru for their support along the way.”

Rhug Estate is now working directly with a local distributor in Qatar - Desert Fox, who will be responsible for promoting and distributing Rhug’s award winning Welsh lamb, and organic chicken in the near future.

Mohamed Sahli from Desert Fox said: “ We are proud to now be working with Rhug Estate and are excited to show our clients the high- quality meat that is produced on the farm in north Wales as well as tell them the provenance of the meat they are about to buy and eat.”
