BBC RADIO Wales will be kicking off Christmas from Llanfair Caereinion.

Star of the Go Compare advert Wynne Evans will be presenting his radio show live from the town centre on Monday, December 9.

Llanfair Caereinion will be hitting the airwaves just days after the town’s Christmas lights were switched on.

The town was chosen as the location of BBC Radio Wales' Christmas launch – the day when the radio station will start playing Christmas music – after Christmas lights committee chairperson Viola E Evans took part in an item on Wynne Evans’ show several weeks ago.

The town councillor invited the opera singer to visit Llanfair Caereinion.

The Wynne Evans Show production team confirmed on November 20 that the show will be broadcasting live to the nation from the small Montgomeryshire town.

Residents are invited to be in the audience by 10am on Monday when it broadcasts live from the upstairs room in The Institute, Bridge Street.

The show will be on BBC Radio Wales from 11am to 2pm, and light refreshments will be served.
