A HOLYHEAD school and family is in mourning following the death of a beloved ‘kind and compassionate’ woman.

Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi expressed its sadness on its website following the death of Adrienne Roberts, of Vuclan Street, Holyhead.

Mrs Roberts, 60, died at Ysbyty Gwynedd, on November 11. Married to Gwyn, she was ‘mam’ to Laura and Gavin, daughter of Gwyneth and the late John, and was also a grandmother, sister and aunt.

Mrs Roberts was a former school governor, and worked for many years in pupil support and cover supervisor roles.

A statement from the school read on November 15: “The outpouring of grief from adults and children here in school is testament to the character and many virtues of this incredible woman.

“November 12, 2019 the Ysgol Uwchradd Caergybi family started the school day in sombre mood upon hearing that we had lost one of our own: Adrienne, who had passed away the night before.

“Adrienne adopted many roles in school, before she left us in the summer 2019, to pursue her dream job in the Cancer Research Superstore in town.

“Adrienne was kindness, compassion, professionalism and warmth. She made everyone feel important and that they mattered.

“She was a tireless campaigner and fundraiser, striving for the day that cancer would be treatable and would no longer blight the lives of others.

“The staffroom was the hub for her plans and schemes; for raffles, cake bakes, coffee mornings and fundraisers. People scrambled to buy tickets for the chance to win one of her beautiful hand – made quilts.

“And although the threads of life’s rich tapestry were cut short far too soon for Adrienne, the golden thread of her kindness will hold us all together as we say our goodbyes.

“The school sends our love and condolences to her devoted family as they come to terms with their loss.”

A spokesperson for the family said: “Adrienne worked at the school for almost 20 years.

“Upon the opening of the Cancer Research Shop in Holyhead she began to volunteer and in April 2019 she left the school to work there full time.

Adrienne fundraised tirelessly for Cancer charities for a number of years, after losing her younger sister Carole.

“The family are truly overwhelmed at the love and kindness shown during this difficult time.”

Her funeral is on Saturday, November 23. It is a public service at Bethel Chapel, Edmund Street, Holyhead at 11am followed by interment at Maeshyfryd Cemetery.

Family flowers only please, donations gratefully accepted for Cancer Research UK.
