A FOOTBALLER from Gwynedd who is currently battling cancer had the surprise of a lifetime when he met some of the Welsh national football team stars.

On Monday, a day before Wales' crucial Euro 2020 qualifier win over Hungary in Cardiff, Danny Gosset met up with some of the players picked for Ryan Giggs' squad.

The 25-year-old midfielder, diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in August and has been undergoing chemotherapy in the hope that it will shrink the tumour.

On Monday, Danny was told that brother Mathew had a meeting in Cardiff. Little did he know that this was in fact a cover story and that he would go on to watch the Welsh superstars train ahead of their qualifier on Tuesday night.

A statement released by Bala Town FC on behalf of Danny's family read: "Danny was not that happy to be told he had to make the long trip to Cardiff a day early because Mathew had a meeting in Cardiff the day before Wales play Hungary but, unbeknown to him, we were in fact taking him to meet the Welsh Squad in their training camp.

"When Mathew told him what was happening, the broad smile on his face was visible throughout the day.

"A Massive thanks must go to Ian Gwyn Hughes from the FAW and Ryan Giggs for organising this surprise along with Sara Pennant Jones.

"On arrival, we were taken down to the training pitch and spent an hour watching the squad train and the banter and togetherness from the lads was brilliant and we all thoroughly enjoyed it.

"When the training session ended the players, all came over to meet Danny and to ask how he was and to show him some support. Ryan Giggs presented him with the new Wales signed shirt.

"To say he was pleased is an understatement. It was an unforgettable day but the highlight was seeing Danny’s broad smile."

Gosset is a respected figure on the Welsh football scene, having turned out for the likes of Rhyl, The New Saints and Bangor City before signing for Bala in August 2018. He has set himself a target to be back playing by the end of this season.
