A PENRITH man has been handed a suspended sentence and banned from owning animals after he caused unnecessary suffering to a dog.
Scott Bruce, 47, of Anchor Close in the town, pleaded guilty to causing unnecessary suffering to a Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Mia.
That was, a court was told, by failing to seek appropriate veterinary care for a chronic skin condition and deteriorating physical health.
He appeared before the magistrates’ court in Carlisle on November 6 where he was handed the 12 week prison sentence suspended for 12 months.
Bruce has been ordered to carry our unpaid work for 80 hours within the next 12 months.
An order was made under Section 34 Animal Welfare Act 2006 which bans Bruce from owning, keeping or participating in keeping an animal for 10 years. No application for termination of the order can be made within a five-year period.
Bruce also has to pay £503.20 in court costs.
