THERE is a chance to travel down memory lane and explore Gwynedd's collection of archives.

The Caernarfon Record Office is offering the public a special opportunity to see the historical documents, photographs, maps, newspapers and other items it holds.

Visitors to the Gwynedd Council archives can also learn about searching the records, with taster sessions on Saturday, November 23.

As part of the sessions there will also be an opportunity to tour the building to learn about how the collections are kept and preserved.

Councillor Gareth Thomas, Gwynedd Council Cabinet Member who leads on the matter said:

“Gwynedd’s archives contain many interesting documents, why not come along to see what it has to offer you?

“The taster sessions offer an opportunity to connect with the area’s history and culture.

"I would encourage anyone who is interested in local history to book a place, everyone is more than welcome.”

Welsh medium session will be held at 10am-12pm and the English medium taster session will be held at 2pm- 4pm.

The collections held at Caernarfon include council and borough records, court sessions, letters and estate papers, deeds and property details, chapel and church records, documents relating to the quarry industry, motor tax records, parish records, school, sports and football clubs and political party papers amongst much more.

Anyone who is interested in taking part in the sessions is asked to first book a place.

This can be done by emailing archifau@gwynedd.llyw.cymru or by phoning 01286 679 095.
