IT proved to be a happy Halloween for Denbigh Dragons at the annual Geoff Drew gala, hosted by Holywell Swimming Club.

The team put in a frightfully impressive performance to finish second overall, with Denbigh’s boys ending on top of the pile with highest points total on the day.

There were a number of excellent individual performances, with many swimmers slashing their personal best times.

Ewan Leonard achieved the top points total for the 10-year-old boys' category, while Sian Evans finished as the top 11-year-old girl.

Overall, 25 Denbigh swimmers came home with 17 gold medals, 18 silver and 12 bronze.

Several meet record times were broken and winter national championship qualifying times achieved.

Justin Jones, head coach of the Dragons, was overjoyed with the attitude and effort shown by his team and praised their skills and fighting spirit. Coach Steph Rowles, present on poolside, was impressed with the determination of the team and hailed another fantastic result.

The gala is great racing preparation for the upcoming sub regional championships, which are to take place in Llandudno later this month, where Denbigh’s girls will need to be devilishly good to snatch back bragging rights from the boys.
