A WOMAN was told by a judge she had “turned a blind eye to motherhood“ when she went to Kinmel Bay with two young children in her car to collect cannabis allegedly worth up to £2,200 for her partner.

Katie Williams, 25, had handed a bag containing the drug to police when they stopped an Audi driven by her at Groeslon in Gwynedd, Caernarfon crown court was told.

She received a 12-month community order with rehabilitation and 120 hours unpaid work after admitting possession with intent to supply on a single day.

Nathan Bohana, 26, received a 12 months suspended prison sentence with drug rehabilitation, a thinking skills programme and 180 hours unpaid work. He pleaded guilty to cannabis supply over 12 months.

Judge Huw Rees told the couple, of Hen Lon, Penygroes, Caernarfon, they were the parents of two young children. “By your selfish need to continue taking cannabis after a prolonged period of addiction, Mr Bohana, you placed your own liberty and capability of providing for the family at risk,” he said.

By agreeing to her partner’s demands to meet his drug dealers, Williams had also put her liberty at risk.

Judge Rees said she turned a blind eye to motherhood when she went to obtain the cannabis but was otherwise a “caring and responsible” mother.

Prosecutor Ffion Tomos said Bohana told police he smoked cannabis daily and his partner was against his drug use. She went to collect the drug for him on April 11.

Bohana said he became “unbearable to live with” if he didn’t smoke the drug.

The prosecution said, by his own admission, Bohana sold cannabis worth £65,000 in a year.

Defence barrister Sion ap Mihangel said the proceeds were used to buy the drug. He thought it would alleviate epilepsy.

Bohana had worked as an electrician and builder.

Judge Rees indicated to Williams’s counsel that he would follow the recommendations of a pre-sentence report for the sake of the children.
