A PROFESSOR originally from Prestatyn whose work has seen her win a range of design awards has been made an Honorary Fellow at Wrexham Glyndwr University.

Sharon Baurley,Professor of Design & Materials and Chair of the Burberry Material Futures Research Group at the Royal College of Art, was given the award for services to art during a ceremony at the university.

The fellows, which also included David Jones and Charlotte Williams from Conwy county, received their awards before being presented to Wrexham Glyndwr University Vice-Chancellor Professor Maria Hinfelaar and Chancellor Colin Jackson during the third and fourth ceremonies of the week.

Professor Baurley, an alumnus of Glyndwr,- said: “The Art and Design programme I studied on here remains to this day one of the best educational experiences of my life. It is very nice to see Glyndwr has grown so much and I will watch with interest its journey going forward.”

She has been awarded numerous national and international design awards including the Josef Otten Award for Technical Innovation and the Ideacomo Award for Printing and Dyeing from the Japanese Fashion Foundation.

The professor, who is also an Academic Partner at Horizon Digital Economy Research Institute, and a Fellow of the UK Higher Education Academy, has a track record of initiating and directing inter-disciplinary research projects between design and computer science and engineering communities.
