AN ABERGELE community café have used the power of a good cuppa to support Marie Curie nurses.

Staff and volunteers at Itaca, at Hesketh house on Bridge Street, have raised £289 for the Marie Curie Nursing Service in Conwy county with their Blooming Great Tea Party earlier this month.

The Itaca café is a registered charity, playing host to an over 50s Group, youth activities, work clubs, an internet café and the Abergele Food Bank.

Marie Curie’s community fundraiser for the area, Victoria Hardy said “attending Itaca’s tea party was a an absolute pleasure. Tom, Lisa and the volunteers who were involved should feel delighted of the event they hosted, and take great pride in knowing the funds they raised will help Marie Curie to care for more patients and families at the time when they need it most”.

A sp9okersperson for Itaca said: "The staff at Itaca decided to support Marie Curie by hosting a Tea Party, which attracted lots of support and was well received in the community."

Marie Curie is appealing for new members, supermarket collectors and members of the public to host similar fundraisers. For more information, contact victoria.hardy@mariecurie.org.uk or 07590 729665 / 01745 352910.
