CHIP Taylor is responsible for one of the most famous songs to come out of the 1960s—The Troggs’ 1966 hit “Wild Thing.”

The song was famously covered in 1967 by Jimi Hendrix. His other big hits include Merrilee Rush’s 1968 “Angel In The Morning” (also covered by P P Arnold and Juice Newton), The Hollies “I Can’t Let Go” (1966, also notably covered by Evie Sands and Linda Ronstadt) and Janis Joplin’s “Try (Just A Little Bit Harder, 1969).”

At the age of 79, Chip is still going strong and in the words of the New York Times “If you only know him as the guy who wrote ‘Wild Thing’ and ‘Angel of the Morning” — you don’t know him!

On Tuesday November 5, he will be appearing at Galeri in Caernarfon as part of a short British tour.

He will be accompanied at Galeri by his long time guitarist John Platania, who in the 70's was a member of Van Morrison's Caledonian Soul Orchestra, and Norwegian keyboard ace Goran Grini.

Over the years, Chip's songs have also been recorded by such luminaries as Aretha Franklin, Dusty Springfield, Frank Sinatra, Willie Nelson, Waylon Jennings, Chrissie Hynde; Peggy Lee, Emmylou Harris and countless others.

Chip Taylor continues to make some of the most distinctive acoustic music around today. Since it was used in the UK Netflix series Sex Education, Chip’s 2012 song F**k All The Perfect People has had over two million Spotify and Youtube streams.

Creating distinctive music that is also enduring and influential has been Chip Taylor’s métier over the course of what is closing in on five decades as “one of America’s finest songwriters as well as a masterful singer and performer,” says Rolling Stone.

His latest in a string of recent albums 'Whiskey Salesman', also shows that the 2016 Songwriters Hall of Fame inductee shows no sign of slowing down.

The doors at the Caernarfon gig open at 7.30pm with tickets available from the Galeri.
