Bucks County Council have released a response to the controversial HS2 prepatory works which have begun in Great Missenden, claiming that their requests have 'fallen on deaf ears'.

Campaigners have set up camp on the side of Link Road, close to the Buryfields Recreation Ground.

They are there to object to the widening of the roads, which they claim is being done to provide access for the vehicles helping preparatory works for the controversial scheme.

Alongside this, the group are also campaigning against the felling of trees in the village – which date back hundreds of years.

Cllr Mark Shaw, Buckinghamshire County Council Deputy Leader and Transport Cabinet Member, has issued a statement on behalf of the council - criticising the decision to commence the works.

The statement said: “The road works at Great Missenden are being carried out by the high speed rail company HS2 Ltd and its contractors.

“They are going ahead despite pressure on the government by the County Council, the Great Missenden Parish Council, local residents and other community groups to halt them until the outcome of the Oakervee review into the future of HS2 is made public.

“We are very disappointed that our requests have fallen on deaf ears.

“The County Council has always stood against the building of a high speed railway through Buckinghamshire, and these works are part of a raft of mitigation assurances offered for damage and disruption the high-speed line is expected to cause, in response to intense County Council lobbying at a House of Commons and House of Lords Select Committee in 2015/16.

“These included measures to improve capacity and safety of roads which will be used for HS2 construction vehicles.”
