A WOMAN from Wrexham has been expanding why her four-legged friend has been nominated for an award.

Karen Williams’s cat, Ginge, has been shortlisted from hundreds of animals for the Pet Hero Of The Year Award as she finished in the top 10 after a public vote.

Speaking to The Leader, the owner explained the reason why she nominated Ginge.

She said: “Ginge is our 11 yr old son's shadow. Ewan has faced very tough times; he suffers with Auditory Processing Disorder & mental illness.

“Ginge is the most amazing cat, we sadly lost her litter mate Zorro this Easter & feared we would lose Ginge to a broken heart.

“Thankfully with Ewan here she's settled again. Ginge sleeps on his high sleeper every night, how she gets up there is beyond me, she can't even jump on the bathroom sink for a drink, she waits to be lifted.

“Ginge meows & paces the house all night if Ewan is not here. Ewan calls her 'my baby girl', she soothes him on his darkest days. She will follow & lie with him no matter where he is. He will stroke her & cry until he feels better, Ginge always knows when he is not himself, this is the only time she will settle on anybody & only Ewan.

“She will meow loader & brush herself against him vigorously when upset, until he engages. We often joke about immortalising her.

“If she were to win the award, it would mean so much to both me and Ewan because Ginge means so much for both to us. It would be great if she got an acknowledgement because she really has done so much for my son.

“I honestly don’t know what we would do without her.”

An initial public vote whittled down all the entries to the top 10, now a panel of judges will decide the winner of Pet Hero Of The Year based on the stories that each remaining pet has.

The family will learn if Ginge has won the award by the end of October.
