A WREXHAM woman has been expressing her unhappiness with Council contractors carrying out work around her home.

Jean Pritchard of Fron Las, Coedpoeth, claims that the workers have not been tidying up after themselves, leaving muck all around the outside of her home, which she then can’t avoid taking in with her on the bottom of her shoes.

New concrete paths, steps and fencing have all been installed in the front and back gardens of the homes surrounding Fron Las by Council contractors over the last few months.

Mrs Pritchard made a point to say that she is happy with the work that the contractors have been carrying out at her home, but just wishes they would clean up any mud that they leave behind after their day’s work.

She said: “The work that the Council has been doing around the street is good and I’m mainly happy with what they’ve put in place, but I’m fed up of the mud all around my home.

“I’ve asked one of the companies contracted to carry out the work if they would clean it up and they said it’s not their job, it’s the other company’s job. Then when I ask the other company, they say it’s not their either.

“I’ve been forced to ask my son-in-law to clean it up, which he did last weekend, but the next day when the contractors were back, the mud just reappeared again and I’m sick to death of it.

“I’ve lost count how many times I’ve had to mop my floor because I can’t help but get mud all through the house on my shoes, people who come to visit drag it in with them, when I let my dog outside he brings it in as well.

The Leader:

“This is my home and I’m being forced to deal with muddy pavements all around me which could be cleaned up very easily. As I say, I’m mostly happy with the work that’s been done, but why can’t they just clean up after themselves?

“It’s lucky I don’t have carpet or I don’t know what I’d do.”

A spokesperson from Wrexham Council has said: “Wrexham Council has been carrying out extensive external works at Mrs Pritchard’s home, which have consisted of new concrete paths, steps and fencing.

“Regrettably with this type of work a certain amount of mess is unavoidable however our contractors do try to ensure that each property is left in a clean condition at the end of the working day.

“We were made aware of this issue early last week and at the time the contractor was still working there. The contractor cleaned up after they had finished for the day however the heavy rain experienced at the weekend and into Monday has caused some of the soil to wash onto the path.

“We have identified an issue with some of the mud washing off some of the soil areas and onto the path therefore we have carried out some additional work to try and stop this.

“Work has now been completed at the property and once the grass has grown the problem will resolve itself fully. We will continue to monitor it and if we need to carry out any further works, we will do so.”
