FROM November Tŷ Pawb will host the return of the biennial Print International exhibition.

Following an open call for print-based artworks earlier this year, over 85 artists from 8 different countries including the US, Canada and Japan have been selected for the exhibition by a panel of judges.

The exhibition will launch on Friday, November 15 when prizes will be awarded in six categories, including the £1000 Judges’ Prize. A seventh prize, the £500 People’s Choice, will be awarded at the end of the exhibition following a public vote.

Alongside Print International, artist Pam Newall has collaborated with Tŷ Pawb and Oswestry’s Designs in Mind to develop a live print studio in the gallery. Under the title Make Print the studio will create print designs that will feature on products that will be sold through Designs in Mind’s JOLT and Siop//Shop at Tŷ Pawb.

As part of Make Print, Pam Newall has also curated an archive of prints and flyers which represent a specific era in the 1970’s. The archive has been generously loaned from the Bradford Print Studio by Dr Robert Galeta, Lecturer, and Pam Brooks, Lecturer in Critical and Contextual Studies, at Bradford School of Art.

Karen Whittingham from Ty Pawb said “We are delighted to host the return of Print International for its 8th edition. Together, Print International and Make Print demonstrate how Tŷ Pawb can simultaneously garner both local and international appeal.”

Cllr Hugh Jones said: “Wrexham has significant printmaking heritage, the importance of which will be celebrated with this internationally reaching, locally embedded pair of exhibitions.”

The free public launch event for Print International 2019 and the Make Print exhibition will take place on Friday, November 15 from 6pm until 8pm.

The exhibitions run from November 16 until February 1 2020.

During Print International there will be a number of public events, including ‘Print and Prosecco’ evenings and the annual Print Symposium hosted by Regional Print Centre. More information about these events will be released soon.
