A Rhyl man hurled abuse at his mother after losing £200 on a gaming machine after appearing in court earlier in the day, magistrates heard.

Staff at the Talardy Hotel in St Asaph called the police because of the behaviour of Alexander Foster, who called his mother a “retard”.

By the time officers arrived Foster, 26, had calmed down and won his money back.

Foster, of Sisson Street, Rhyl, pleaded guilty at Llandudno magistrates’ court to using threatening or abusive words or behaviour at the hotel on September 25.

“It was plain stupidity,” he said.

He was fined £40 and ordered to pay costs of £685 and a £32 surcharge.
