A 42-year-old Gwynedd man accused of having crack cocaine and heroin worth more than £4,200 has been jailed for three years and four months.

Colin Rowlands, of Well Street, Bangor, pleaded guilty to possessing the drugs with intent to supply at the city in August last year.

Prosecuting barrister Richard Edwards told Caernarfon crown court that in the early hours police were informed of a man slumped over the wheel of a Ford Focus. Officers went to the home of Rowlands’s mother and he got out of the car.

But Mr Edwards said “wraps” of drugs were spotted. The defendant ran off but was caught and detained using incapacitant spray. Two mobile phones had messages indicating his involvement in the supply of drugs.

Hannah Horton, defending, said Rowlands had an “unenviable” record and had issues with drugs. He was in debt and his life spiralled out of control.

She said Rowlands was now in Altcourse jail, receiving methadone.

“He wants to turn his life around,” the barrister added.

Judge Timothy Petts said the drug addict had been jailed in 2003 for a similar offence.

“Only a lengthy custodial term will suffice,” he told Rowlands. “You are too old for this.”

Forfeiture of £591 was ordered.
