ARFON'S Member of Parliament and Assembly Member have given their backing to businesses on a Gwynedd High Street's bid to become the best in Wales and the UK.

Stryd y Plas, Caernarfon has been shortlisted in The Great British High Street Awards, which celebrates the great work that’s being done to revive, adapt and diversify the nation’s high streets and help champion high streets as the cornerstones of the community.

Hywel Williams MP and Sian Gwenllian AM recently praised the work of Hwb Caernarfon in supporting local businesses and promoting the town as a must-visit destination for visitors.

Mr Williams said: "I am delighted that Stryd y Plas has been shortlisted for this award, and I will certainly do all that I can to help encourage the voting.

"Stryd y Plas is a real gem in the heart of Caernarfon, bringing together the old and the new and attracting visitors from across the globe to our great town.

"It is also a fantastic example of a street that has made huge strides in transforming itself and significantly improving the environment for both locals and visitors.

"Businesses and community groups involved in regenerating Stryd y Plas should be immensely proud of their achievement. There is a real sense of community here and it’s become a real hub of activity.’

"I am pleased to give my full backing to this campaign. It’s vital that we celebrate those that go above and beyond to keep our streets and town centres thriving for generations to come."
