A WREXHAM landlord has expressed his relief at being able to attend Wales' upcoming game against Slovakia.

Wales' European qualifier in Trnava next month was to be played behind closed doors but a successful appeal from the Slovak FA has overturned that decision.

The eastern-European nation's FA released a statement on Sunday saying that UEFA had punished them for their supporters' misconduct during the 2-1 win in Hungary earlier this month.

The statement said UEFA had ordered the qualifier to be played without spectators and fined the Slovak FA 20,000 euros.

That decision left thousands of Wales supporters out of pocket, with many having already booked their flights and purchased their tickets for the game.

However, Wales fans will be now allowed to attend their European Championship qualifier in Trnava as Slovakia have won their appeal against the game being played behind closed doors.

The FAW tweeted on Thursday: "Slovakia have successfully appealed against the stadium closure for the European qualifying match against @Cymru in Trnava on October 10.

"As a result, Wales fans will now be able to attend the match."

Wayne Jones, landlord of The Turf on Mold Road, had bought a ticket along with a with a group of friends, and told The Leader he is very relieved to hear the news.

He said: “I organised the trip along with 13 other people, and seven of us have got tickets to the game.

“I actually found out about the original news in our group chat, and I didn’t really understand it at first, I thought that it was just a ban for the Slovaks and that we would still be able to go.

“I was very disappointed with the decision from UEFA, I didn’t really understand why the Welsh fans were being punished for the behaviour of the Slovakian supporters.

“We love travelling abroad to watch Wales play, we’ve been out to China and Albania in the past, we do it two or three times a year.

"I'm over the moon hearing the news that we can go now, the plan was that we would have gone and enjoyed three days away anyway had worst come to worst, but I'm chuffed that we'll be able to go and watch Wales as well now.

"I'm glad UEFA have seen sense and allowed the Welsh fans to attend, we'll be there supporting the team."
