A MARKS AND SPENCER shop in Gwynedd has raised £2,477 for Macmillan Cancer Support through an event held in store.

To celebrate 10 years of partnership with Macmillan Cancer Support, M&S Food stores across the country this month launched their ‘Walls of Support’ scheme.

The move aims to encourage customers and colleagues to share messages of support to “Raise a Mug” for Macmillan or a loved one.

Mug message notes have been available in-store throughout September for just £1 and M&S Menai Bangor, based on Garth Road, has proved to be one of the most successful Walls in the UK, raising£2,477 already through their Wall of Support activity.

This fundraising success follows on from another carried out by the store earlier this year. In March, staff from the Bangor store handed over a cheque of £1,002.07 to Ysbyty Gwynedd’s the Alaw Unit.

At the time, staff member Emma Griffiths said the team decided to raise money for the cancer care unit because they know “cancer can touch anyone at any time”. She said they all knew someone who has had cancer and received excellent care on the Alaw Unit.
