CAMPAIGNERS have welcomed the commencement of a new and direct bus service between Glasinfryn and Bangor.
It follows-on from concerns by locals passed on to Arfon MP Hywel Williams and local Councillor Menna Baines that there was no direct service connecting the communities of Glasinfryn, Waen Wen, Pentir, Caerhun, Pant Caerhun and Minffordd to Bangor after 10am in the morning.
Mr Williams and Cllr Baines followed-up these concerns with the Council, asking them to provide an additional, direct afternoon service to afford local residents more choice regarding their journey options.
Since then, the service began on September 2 and leaves Glasinfryn at 1.14pm, terminating at the Bangor bus terminus.
Commenting on the success of the campaign, Hywel Williams MP said: "Having organised a community advice surgery in Glasinfryn with local Councillor Menna Baines, it became clear that the lack of a direct afternoon bus service to Bangor was a recurring concern for local residents.
"This additional direct service is good news for local people. It’s vital that people are able to travel to Bangor to attend medical appointments and do their shopping at a time convenient for them.
"I hope this additional service and change in timetable will make a big difference to local commuters who felt inconvenienced by the lack of options in the previous timetable."
