OCTOBER'S cinema programme at Pontio promises an autumn treat for all the new arrivals in Bangor.

The city's arts and entertainment centre not only welcomes the latest batch of first-time students to the cinema, at the beginning of their new term at Bangor University, but also embraces Osian Gwynn as its new artistic director.

The centre will be encouraging all its new arrivals to check out the diverse programme of films and special events on offer at the Pontio Cinema.

If horror and clowns are your bag, there is plenty to keep you screaming.

The programme is heavy on creepy clowns with extremely scary films IT and The Joker on the agenda.

With Halloween coming up, there is plenty to send shivers down your spine, for both young and old, with the annual Abertoir 'screamfest.'

There is also a timely half-term animation treat from Aardman Animations with their latest Shaun the Sheep movie - Farmageddo!.

But, as Cinema co-ordinator Emyr Glyn Williams says:

"Without doubt, it is women and girls who dominate the screen this month.

"There are visits from Agnes, Dora, Jane, Gwen and Judy dominating the programme."

That’s not to say there isn't room for a few key performances from men too, with music and comedy on the bill.

There is a chance to catch Gwynedd's very own opera singer Bryn Terfel, singing live from Covent Garden.

The 'Big Yin,' the universally loved Billy Connolly brings his unique brand of stand up to the big screen for one last time.

Actors Robert DeNiro and Al Pacino star in Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman, for one night only. Truly unmissable cinema.

Tickets for the Pontio cinema are £7.50 for adults, £6.50 for over 60s, £6 for students and £5.50 for children.
