ARFON'S MP has called for immediate recall of parliament following a "damning" Supreme Court verdict.
Hywel Williams who is the Plaid Cymru Member of Parliament for Arfon and the party’s Brexit spokesperson has welcomed an unanimous ruling by the Supreme Court that the suspension of Parliament by Prime Minister Boris Johnson was unlawful and has called on the Speaker to recall Parliament.
Hywel Williams MP said: "The Supreme Court judgement is completely clear. Boris Johnson’s proroguing of Parliament was unlawful. His motive was clear – to stymy Parliament a crucial time.
"His government offered no explanation of their action. The effect on democracy was extreme. The Speaker should decide what should happen next.’
I’m delighted that the Supreme Court has come to these unanimous decisions. The Johnson government’s motive was clear from the start – to smother democracy. The fact that they were unwilling to provide an explanation under oath speaks volumes.’
"I call on the Speaker to reconvene the House of Commons immediately to discuss this supremely important matter and to re-establish proper scrutiny of the Johnson government – whilst it continues.
"This I a sweeping condemnation of the Prime Minister’s action and he should consider is position. In my opinion he has no choice other than to resign and he should do that immediately.
"I congratulate our legal team on this historic victory."
