A YOUNG girl from Anglesey has been given the all clear from cancer.

Maisy Fitzmaurice from Amlwch was diagnosed with germ cell cancer back in April, just weeks after her 10th birthday.

Since then, she has undergone a series of operations and a course of chemotherapy to eradicate the cancer which had spread to her lungs and liver.

This week, Maisy's dad Tony announced that his daughter had been given the good news by doctors at Alder Hey Children's Hosptial, Liverpool.

"I'm a very emotional and proud dad right now," he said.

"I would just like to say a huge thank you to everyone for everything that’s been done to help Maisy. There are literally hundreds of different people and groups that have been so amazing towards her.

"It’s been a roller coaster of a year, but now we can put it all behind us, enjoy our family holiday in a couple of weeks and look forward to Christmas with a fully fit Maisy."

On Tuesday morning, Maisy rang the bell to signal the end of her treatment at Alder Hey alongside her dad, mum Emma and brother Mylo.

The football-mad youngster, who attends Ysgol Gynradd Amlwch School, recently went on the trip of a lifetime down to Newport - where she was a mascot for the Wales ladies team as they drew 2-2 with Northern Ireland.

During her visit down South, Maisy also met some of the Wales men's team - including manager Ryan Giggs who she handed over a special Childhood Cancer Awareness Month badge to.

Giggs was later spotted on live TV wearing the badge Maisy gave him during Wales' 2-1 World Cup qualifier win over Azerbaijan.

Locally, Maisy is known to be a devoted follower of her "favourite team in the world" - Amlwch Ladies football team, who have all in return done their bit to support her during her fight against cancer.

Celebrating the news, Amlwch Ladies' player Carol Lewis said: "Maisy; words can't describe how I'm feeling right now, I am so happy for you, it's been a roller coaster of a ride over the last months, but through it all you've always been smiling.

"I remember when you told me the horrible news, we hugged each other so tight and promised each other that we would fight this together and that's exactly what you've done. You are a very brave girl and I am so proud of you.

"Not all superheroes wear capes, but you are one of them - you are my hero."

Fellow player Lexi Crawley added: "Couldn’t be any happier for you and the family. When times got tough you still fought with that amazing smile on your face. You are an inspiration to us all.

"When I’d get a text off you asking for a goal, I’d try 110% with you always on my mind. What makes scoring my last few goals special is I’ve got to run to the side line give you a great big hug and celebrate with you. Chase your dreams now girl you’re an amazing little girl, enjoy life and keep smiling."
