A TRAINING programme for volunteers to help out in homeless shelters in winter is to take place.

The scheme will see a series of workshops for prospective volunteers who want to work in night shelters in Wrexham.

The sessions will take place throughout winter at St John's Church in Rhosnesni courtesy of Housing Justice Cymru - a Christian action group to prevent homelessness and bad housing.

They will take place on October 10, October 28, November 7, November 21, December 9 and December 16 and will run from 2pm and 4.30pm and between 7pm and 9.30pm.

Shelter volunteers need only to attend one of these sessions.

Every winter, churches open their buildings one night a week for members of the roofless community, and volunteers from churches around the area staff these 'pop up' shelters.

If you would like to be involved in any role where you have contact with the guests, please choose a training session to attend and contact wrexham@housingjustice.org.uk

If you would like a 'non contact' role (washing bedding, providing food) please sign up at the same email address, but attending training isn't required.

Male volunteers willing to do overnight shifts are particularly sought after.
