A WREXHAM charity faces an uncertain future unless it can find some new volunteers.

The Wrexham branch of national charity Muscular Dystrophy UK has been fundraising and supporting local people with muscle-wasting conditions for over 40 years.

In that time the volunteer members of the group have raised hundreds of thousands of pounds through activities such as collections, coffee mornings and Christmas fairs.

However the group is struggling to keep going as numbers have dwindled and so now they are appealing to local residents who can spare some time to get involved and support their cause.

Kathleen Prince, the Branch Secretary said: "We are all getting older and need to find some new faces to help us in what we do.

"We are interested in hearing from anyone whether or not they have a connection to muscular dystrophy.

"Our meetings are usually held around six to eight times a year at Capel-y-Groes in Holt Street, Wrexham to discuss fundraising plans but we really do need more people to help us do more and to bring in some new ideas.

"Our next activity is a Christmas Fair on Saturday, November 30 from 10am to 12noon which will include stalls selling cakes, books, Christmas gifts and more. This would be a perfect opportunity to get involved and to get to know us better."

Charles Horton, regional development manager for Muscular Dystrophy UK said: "Our local community based branches have been, and remain, an important part of our network and are tireless in their support for the charity. Things change over time and bringing in some additional help for the group will help them continue their good work in raising the profile of muscular dystrophy in Wrexham and raising funds to help us continue our work.

"I would urge anyone with a few hours a month to spare to get in touch and join this local group."
