GWALCHMAI Cycling Club recently paid a visit to Bryn Hwfa Children Services to present them with a £3,885.12 cheque.

Club members travelled to the Rhostrehwfa-based group to present the sum which they raised through their 107 mil Tour de Mon bike ride which came to an end on August 18.

Eleven cyclists participated in the event and raised the amount through individual sponsorships, business donations and through a GoFundMe.

Sarah Horton manager of Bryn Hwfa said “I am thrilled with the amount raised by Gwalchmai cycling club which will make a huge difference to the children that use this facility, I can’t thank them enough for choosing us as their fundraising cause.

"I can’t wait to start planning with the children the things we can now buy”

Gwalchmai Cycling Club's Adrian Williams presented the cheque to Tom, 13 and Aron, 16, who are currently being cared for by staff at Bryn Hwfa.

Adrian said: "We are delighted to have raised this money for such a worthy cause based here on Anglesey. Overall the bike ride took us just over seven and half hours of riding time.

"We completed the 107 mile bike ride in really awful weather conditions and suffered punctures and a couple of injuries. There were a few sore legs and other areas at the end of the ride.

I’d like to say on behalf of the club a huge thank you to everyone that supported us and gave so generously. A special thank you goes to Hogan group for being our main sponsor and purchasing the cycling tops and to Algarve365.com and Glyndwr services for their very generous donations also".

Next year, the members of the club are planning to ride the castle to castle challenge which will see them riding from Beaumaris to Cardiff - a distance of approximately 200 miles.
