THE A470 has reopened following the crash at Dinas Mawddwy near Dolgellau in which the passenger of a 4x4 vehicle was airlifted to hospital with "serious injuries."

The driver of the vehicle was also taken to Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor, after the accident happened at 8.30am, on Tuesday, August 27.

North Wales Police are appealing for witnesses following the serious collision which caused the road to be closed for a number of hours.

The collision involved a Daf HGV and a maroon-coloured 4x4 and happened pass between Cross Foxes and Mallwyd.

Sgt Jason Diamond of the Roads Policing Unit said: “I am appealing for anyone who was travelling on the A470 in the area of the Dinas Mawddwy Pass around the time of the incident and to anyone who has dash cam footage to contact police on 101 or https://www.north-wales.police.uk/contact/live-chat-support quoting reference X124727.

In the latest Tweet, at 2.10pm, North Wales police said: "RTC A470 Dinas Mawddwy. The road has now been reopened . Thank you for your patience."

A Wales Air Ambulance spokesperson said: "I can confirm that Wales Air Ambulance attended the scene of a road traffic collision on the A470 near Dinas Mawddwy this morning (27/8).

"Two of the charity’s aircraft from Caernarfon and Dafen were tasked on this occasion. The first aircraft arrived at scene at 9:18am with the second landing a short while later at 9:45am.

"The Welsh Flying Medics treated a patient before airlifting them to the Royal Stoke University Hospital.

"The aircraft conveying the patient left the scene at 10:37 and arrived at hospital at 11:07am. Our involvement concluded at 11:33am."

A spokesperson for the Welsh Ambulance Services NHS Trust released an updated statement saying:

“We were called on Tuesday 27 August at approximately 08:25 am to reports of a road traffic accident involving two vehicles on the A470 near Dinas Mawddwy.

"We responded with three emergency ambulances and our crew were supported by the Wales Air Ambulance as well as the Police and Fire & Rescue Services.

"One patient was transported by air ambulance to Stoke Hospital, and another patient was transported by road ambulance to Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.”

A spokesperson for the North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said: "The fire service was called at 8.40am to a road traffic collision on A470 at Dolgellau, Dinas Mawddwy.

"One appliance was sent, and the Helimed doctor and ambulance attended."
