ANGLESEY's new council boss says she is '"honoured and delighted" to take on her new role.

Annwen Morgan, from Llangefni, has been appointed as the latest Isle of Anglesey County Council chief executive,

She is currently employed as the authority’s deputy chief executive, and takes up her new post in October.

Annwen, who is married to Tudur and has two grown-up daughters, said: “I’m delighted and honoured to be appointed to the role of Anglesey Chief Executive.

"I look forward to building on the excellent work of my predecessor Dr Gwynne Jones, and continuing to work with colleagues and partners in local communities and across all sectors of society to deliver for Ynys Môn.”

She added, “Local government faces significant challenges in terms of future finances, but I’m eager to begin the work and do my utmost for the people of Anglesey.”

A native of Anglesey, Annwen was educated at Ysgol Syr Thomas Jones, Amlwch. She gained her BA in Welsh from Bangor University, followed by a Postgraduate Certificate in Education qualification. Annwen began her career with the Isle of Anglesey County Council in 1983 as a Welsh teacher at Ysgol Uwchradd Bodedern, becoming the Head of the Welsh Language Department in 1994 and the school’s Head Teacher in 2007. In January, 2016, she was appointed as the County Council’s Assistant Chief Executive (Partnership and External Transformation).

She has worked locally, regionally and nationally on partnerships across council services and on economic regeneration, school modernisation, community safety and the transformation of adult social services projects and regional service initiatives. Annwen has also led on the Welsh Language Strategy in the council's internal administration.
