POETRY in the language or dialect spoken by ordinary people is the topic of a literary event coming to Holyhead.

Fiona Owen introduces Mike Jenkins with Writing from the Streets - Poetry in Vernacular at the Ucheldre Centre, 1pm-3pm, on Friday, October 4.

The Ucheldre Lit. Soc. event includes readings and workshop on vernacular poetry writing. Mike is a retired English teacher. He is a former editor of ‘Poetry Wales’ and co-editor of ‘Red Poets’. Winner of the Eric Gregory Award, Wales Book of the Year and John Tripp Prize for Spoken Poetry. His latest book is From Aberfan to Grenfell’ (Culture Matters) with Swansea artist Alan Perry, poems in Merthyr dialect. He is also the winner of the Chair at the Learners’ Eisteddfod.
