DENBIGH High School is celebrating its A level results, which have seen a significant rise in the highest A*/A grades for the second year in a row.

The top A level or equivalent grades have risen again, by an impressive 27 per cent, with 59 per cent of students achieving at least one A*/A.

That's compared to 32 per cent last year and this is due to 39 per cent of all entries being A/A*.

In addition, the school has maintained its record level from last year, with 82 per cent of all grades achieved being A*-C.

Holly Roberts achieved A*s in chemistry, maths and further maths, plus an A in physics.

Meanwhile, there were A* grades for Joseph Fishwick in maths, further maths and physics, while and Jessica Briody-Hughes achieved an A* in biology and A grades in chemistry and history.

Holly will heading to university to study maths at either UCL or Edinburgh, while Joe will study physics at Manchester University.

Jess is going to Durham University to study anthropology.

Other students achieving the highest A* and A grades at A level or the equivalent include Harry Edwards, Kala Gowing, Theo Halton, Isobel Lloyd, Amy Martin, Katie Rowlands, Ross Slater and Alan Turner.

Chair of governors Kate Sutherland said: “Once again, I am thrilled with the performance of our A level students.

"It goes to show how much the hard work and dedication of the students, along with the support of their teachers, staff, parents, carers and families, has truly paid off.

"I wish them all the very best in their chosen future plans.”

Dr Paul Evans, headteacher, said: “I am extremely proud of the achievement of our A level students.

"In many instances, they have exceeded our expectations.

"Due to their success, students are going on to study a plethora of courses ranging from mathematics to nursing, mental health and teaching.

"Such results are a culmination of the dedication, hard work and perseverance displayed by the students and teachers who prepared them for their exams.

"Our improved results for the second year continue our trend of improvement across the school.”

There were also notable individual successes at AS level this year. Huw Wisby achieved A grades in biology, chemistry, maths and physics, while Matthew Minshull achieved A grades in English language and Welsh second language, plus a C in French.
