RNLI Moelfre Lifeboat Day Pictures: Kerry Roberts

THERE were lots of smiling faces in Moelfre as the crowds descended to enjoy the village's annual lifeboat day.

The Moelfre RNLI Lifeboat Station is open all year round but the highlight is its annual Lifeboat Day, which held today (Saturday) on until later tonight.

Thousands of people gathered for a nautical extravaganza with all sorts of family fun and activities going on throughout the day.

The village was awash with stalls, crafts, food vendors, children’s games, live music with local bands, fair ground rides as well as live coverage by Anglesey radio station Môn FM.

A lifeboat launch and display was on at 12:30pm, with the village's lifeboat volunteers demonstrating their highly trained rescue skills and specialist equipment.

The annual fundraising event happens in the Beach Road area, at the lifeboat station, and at the RNLI Seawatch Centre.

The lifeboat display included a chance to see the RNLB Kiwi, the all weather lifeboat and the inshore lifeboat Enfys II.

Kiwi cost £2.7 million, following a bequest to the station, and Enfys II was purchased in 2018 by an anonymous donor.

A Moelfre RNLI spokesperson said: “It’s our way of giving something back to the community.”
