ANXIOUS to get home before lighting up time a 25-year-old Anglesey man drove his Honda motorbike at more than 120mph on the A55 dual carriageway.

Robat Parry of Ffordd Dolafon, Llangefni, had no headlights and because there were no mirrors didn’t realise that a police car was behind him.

At Llandudno court on Friday he was given an eight weeks jail sentence suspended for a year with costs of £200 and an 18 months ban from the road after pleading guilty to dangerous driving on the westbound carriageway at Llandudno Junction.

Chairman David Subbachi told Parry that before he gets his full licence returned he will have to take an extended test.

Mr Subbachi said there could have been awful consequences when driving at more than 120mph when approaching the tunnel. “This is a shocking case of dangerous driving,” he told him.

Diane Williams, prosecuting, said a police car was seeking a suspect driver when Parry was seen entering the A55 at the Black Cat roundabout and travelling at a huge speed towards the tunnel. At one stage a workman on the opposite side of the road was seen to lean, shocked, against a crash barrier.

Eventually Parry reduced his speed, saw the police car behind him and stopped at Conwy Morfa. Magistrates were shown video from the police car.

Parry had explained that the reason he was in a hurry was because dusk was approaching and his MoT permitted daylight driving only.

A probation officer told the court that Parry worked seven days a week as a motor body repairer for three garages, took home £250 and spent his cash “on boys’ toys like his motor bike.”

He appeared to minimise the effects of such riding.

Richard Williams, defending, produced testimonials for the court, and said Parry, “a hard working young man,” had made the wrong choice on June 14, and should have stayed in the locality knowing that he wouldn’t get home before dark.

“He’s pleaded guilty at the first opportunity but does acknowledge that the offence is of some gravity,” he said.
