AN ADRENALINE junkie nursery owner will take to the skies to help a 14-year-old girl get the "best leg".

Nerys Jones, owner of Y Bwthyn Bach nursery, on Denbigh green, will realise her decade long dream of being strapped on the outside of a plane for a wing walk at the RFC Rendcomb Airfield in cirencester on Friday, August 2.

A 60th birthday gift from her children Michael, Sophie and Jamie, as well as partner Dewi Jones, Mrs Jones will also seek to raise £1,000 towards a magnetic prosthetic leg for Denbigh High pupil Ruby Bryan.

Mrs Jones said: "I'm a bit of an adrenaline junkie, so I told my family to rally everyone round to get a wing walking experience for me for my 60th birthday in February.

"I first wanted to do it for my 50th, but as I have epilepsy I have to be cleared for some years before the doctor would give me the ok.

"I have known Ruby and her family for many years, we cared for Ruby as a baby and then later at our After School Club until she went to high school. Her mum Angela also worked for me.She's so resilient and determined, I wanted to do whatever I can to help her."

Ruby was born with bilateral tailipes - commonly referred to as 'clubfoot '- in both feet picked up on the 20 week scan, before undergoing years of operations and treatments.

After many relapses and attempts to find a second opinion, Ruby opted to have a below the knee amputation on her right leg.

Mrs Jones added: "Ruby was in a lot of pain and having to use strong pain killers daily.

"She was losing her mobility, not able to walk far, giving up dancing and various activities. Due to constant pain Ruby took the brave decision to have a below the knee amputation.

"Unfortunately the NHS prosthetic are functional, but that's about it.

"This new leg - which Ruby calls it her "best leg"looks like real skin and connects magnetically, which is so important for her self-esteem, confidence and comfort."

The £20,000 price tag for the prosthesis recently saw Denbigh Infirmary maternity support worker Nicola Field beat her £2,800 target for Ruby at the London Marathon in April.

Mrs Jones said: "After seeing Nicola running I thought, that's great - Maybe I can do the same with the wing walk and put it out to the community.

"Ruby's absolutely over the moon and so grateful. Her family - and even my family - think I'm bonkers, but that's just who I am and it's for a good cause. Besides, it's easy, you just climb on top of the plane and strap yourself in."
