LLANRWST’s inconsistent North Wales Cricket League Division One season continued with a seven-wicket home reverse to Gwersyllt Park.

The Rwsters’ contest was one of the only fixtures to come to a formal outcome as adverse weather swept across the region, and they managed to set a target of 168 all out from their 45 overs in the middle.

Opener Callum Jones was the standout performer on the day with a knock of 33, with Alex Evans also aiding his side’s cause with 29 from the middle order.

Other double figure scores came from Nathan Jones and skipper Aron Hughes, who contributed 30 and 16 respectively, and Lee Thomas provided some much-needed runs from the number nine position on his way to a score of 22.

Jake Jones was the pick of the visiting bowlers, claiming four wickets for the loss of 41 runs from a 12-pover spell.

Park’s target was revised to 94 from 20 overs due to the worsening conditions, and they were dealt a blow early on when gifted opener Lewis Cole was run out by Iestyn Williams after making just one.

Jo Maguire also got in on the act with the wicket of Scott Watkins for 16, but a standout half century from captain-opener Jake Jones ensured the visitors got over the line in relative comfort with eight overs to spare.

The batsman smashed ten boundaries on his way to an unbeaten 52 to lead his side to glory, and Llanrwst will be hoping for better fortune this Saturday when they travel to basement dwellers Bersham.
