PRESTATYN Town geared up for their first taste of competitive action with a 5-0 home win over a Tranmere Rovers XI.

The Seasiders’ pre-season fixture list concluded on a positive note in front of their home faithful, with Neil Gibson’s men now turning their attention to a Nathaniel MG Cup round one encounter against JD Cymru North rivals Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochant at the Motion Finance Stadium on Saturday (2.30pm).

Defender Dave Hayes and returning midfielder Michael Parker had both spurned good opportunities for the home side throughout the first period, but Town got their noses in front on 37 minutes when striker Ian Griffiths found the net from just inside the area to open the scoring.

Things got even better soon after when skipper Alex Jones pulled them further clear courtesy of a glancing header with 40 on the clock.

After the break saw the hosts treble their advantage shortly following the restart when Macauley Taylor produced a powerful strike that found its way into the corner on 47 minutes to all-but seal their success.

Along kick from goalkeeper Ryan Roberts presented a chance to former Connah’s Quay Nomads player Rob Hughes on 50 minutes, and the combative midfielder made no mistake with the finish for their fourth.

There was still time for Town to further impact the score board, with Ben Maher delivering another superb free kick into the top corner to round off the scoring with 78 gone.

Next up for the Seasiders’ is a Llanrhaeadr side who exceeded all expectations in the Huws Gray Alliance last term after being largely written off, with Marc Griffiths’ side comfortably avoiding the drop thanks to a series of outstanding results.
