MORE THAN 120 people attend the 50th anniversary of a Tea Party gathering on Anglesey.

The Marian-glas tea party held on July 18 was originally started by residents of the small village to celebrate the inauguration of Prince Charles which took place in Caernarfon.

Traditionally, the event, held at the old school building, includes an afternoon tea, a fancy dress competition for the children and sports competitions on the green for people of all ages.

This year’s tea party saw a bouncy castle set up and guests were handed a slice of cake and a glass of Prosecco as they raised a toast to the historic gathering.

Organiser Elen Williams, from neighbouring village Brynteg, said people came from all over the island and beyond to reunite with old friends and family.

“I think people really enjoyed talking to old friends as well as getting to know new people from the area,” she said.

“Over the years residents have moved on from Marian-glas but it was great to see both new and old residents coming to celebrate with us this year.

“There were three generations of my family there with me. I do hope the party will continue for another 50 years!”

To reminisce further about the past, a display of tea party photos from years gone by was set up in the old school building.

“Making use of the hen ysgol building is great as it is a very useful asset for Marian-glas to have,” Elen continued.

“We are very grateful to the efforts of the people who helped set up the tea party event and also to those who donate food, drinks and of course, money which will help keep the tea party going in years to come.”
