THEATREGOERS who have journeyed to the West of End of London may have spotted some familiar faces in the Vale of Clwyd this month.

Actors Dan Hagley, Amy-Jane Ollies and Daniel Taylor, who have performed in world-famous theatres as well as on various national TV series, visited Denbigh to appear in a fundraising show.

They were invited by friend and former West End co-star Tracy Spencer, who directs The Denbigh Workshop. The charity gives seven to 18-year-olds from low income families and young carers the chance to be taught by industry professionals.

The show at Myddelton College on July 14 started with the youth charity’s students and the Denbigh Community Choir singing Doris Day numbers and a tribute to Les Miserables, the West End’s longest running show. The audience was then treated to performances by the VIP actors, which included The Beatles and Thoroughly Modern Millie.

Dan Hagley starred in the all-time radio show The Archers, while Amy-Jane Ollies appeared in Blood Brothers, Hollyoaks and Casualty, and Daniel Taylor performed in Tommy Cooper Show and Lennon Through a Glass Onion.

Mrs Spencer, who played in Blood Brothers in London in the 1990s alongside her now husband Sean Jones, said: “I’m so humbled that when I put the call in to friends in the profession, they always say ‘no problem, count me in’.

“With full support from our community choir and students it was such an amazing night.”

The evening was topped off with a raffle for tickets to Loose Women, and signed photos from Marti Pellow, Warwick Davis, Lisa Stokke and Shirley Ballas.

More than £2,400 was raised for Denbigh charity, which will help fund its August summer school activities including stage combat, singing, puppetry, dance acting and willow craft, as well as future projects.

Mrs Spencer added: “Our summer school this year takes place in the beautiful surroundings of Myddelton College, for young people interested in drama who wouldn’t necessarily be given the opportunity to work with professionals.”

The summer school takes place from August 5-9. Places are limited. To book, email thedenbighworkshop@gmail.com
