A FORMER England captain will be taking to the pitch at Memorial Park Fields next month.

Premier League and FA Cup-winning skipper Bryan Robson will be part of the Manchester United Legends team playing against a Ruthin Town XI on Saturday, August 10.

Former Manchester United star Denis Irwin will be another member of the squad, with the match kicking off at 5pm.

In addition, the Manchester United stars will be sharing stories from years gone by in the clubhouse from 8pm.

Ruthin Town vice-chairman Andy Edwards said: "We are extremely grateful to the Manchester United team for returning this year.

"Our last encounter was a great spectacle for the players and supporters involved.

"We have been working hard over the last 12 months revamping the clubhouse and with this fundraising event, we should generate enough cash to complete the remaining work needed.

"The football and cricket clubs are self sufficient and any upgrades are solely funded by the group involved."

Edwards added: "We would like to thank Jamie Lewis, a local Ruthin lad who is our contact at Manchester United.

"Without him, this event would not be happening.

"We would also like to say a special thank-you to a few local people who without them the project would not have succeeded.

"Rich Goldstone (RIG Joinery), Daf Evans (Kartre) and Chris Williams have really supported us well with carpentry, design and electrical expertise.

"There are many more people to thank who have also put in a shift and to those, we would like to say thank-you from us all."

Edwards is urging as many fans as possible to make the most of the occasion.

"We want as many people to come down and cheer on either Ruthin Town FC or Man Utd and having world legends such as Denis Irwin and Bryan Robson is simply outstanding.

"We are looking forward to the night of stories too, just as much as the game itself."

Admission to the match is £10, with children allowed in free of charge.

For the match and the evening event, tickets are priced at £25.
