LLANDYRNOG 5

LLANFAIR 1

THE most successful club in the history of the Shield are targeting yet another one.

Not content with winning the competition on a mammoth 18 occasions, Llandyrnog have their eyes firmly on number 19 following a five-star Thursday evening showing.

Many pundits would have predicted it would be Llanfair making their way into the final four, however Jimmy McNally's hosts had other ideas and they claimed a superb 5-1 triumph in atrocious weather to make it through to the semi-finals.

They went in front in unusual fashion.

Goalkeeper Daniel Jones' long clearance bounced in the visitors' area and a mix-up resulted in a Llanfair defender putting the ball into his own net.

There was no way back for Dylan Pugh's visitors after this and Llandyrnog stretched their lead out to four goals.

Llyr Morris did pull a goal back for Llanfair with his 32nd strike of a superb campaign, but the final word belonged to Llandyrnog with their fifth goal of the evening.

The star of the show for the hosts was Craig Jones, who netted a hat-trick, while Tom Hughes also found the target.
